Public Art

Arts!Longview is committed to enhancing our 343-acre Cultural District through the installation of public art projects that celebrate our creative identity.

Book Benches

In partnership with Keep Longview Beautiful, Arts!Longview commissioned the fabrication of four open book benches and worked with local artist Jamie Robinson to paint the designs. Each book depicts a popular children’s tale, including “The Wizard of Oz,” “Alice in Wonderland,” “Winnie the Pooh,” and “Sherlock Holmes.” The benches are installed in front of the Longview Public Library.

Free Little Art Gallery

In partnership with the Longview News-Journal, Arts!Longview commissioned local artists to refurbish a newspaper stand and convert it into a Free Little Art Gallery where artists can make and trade small pieces of artwork. Charles Arnold helped with the refurbishment and Melody Calhoun painted the design.

Free Little Library

Circlets Magnum Opus

The first sculptural “art” bench in the Arts!Longview Cultural District, Circlets Magnum Opus was designed by Holly Forbes. The imagery of the bench represents an artist’s palette.

A Legacy of Railroad History at the Longview Junction

Through art, this mural tells the history of Longview’s Train Depot at the historic Junction from its beginnings in the 1870s to its place in the modern world where it continues to serve as an Amtrak station and a cornerstone of the Longview Multimodal Transportation Center. This mural was created by Holly Forbes and the late Jason Butler. Griff Hubbard provided both historical context and accuracy to the mural.

Downtown Water Tower Mural

In 2025, as part of the City of Longview’s rehabilitation of the downtown water tower located on High Street, Arts!Longview had the opportunity to create a new mural for the 1-million gallon elevated storage tank. Holly Forbes designed the artwork for the project. The artwork features imagery that celebrates the arts and the cultural identity of Longview.

Life Is A Balancing Act

Created by artist Cindy Debold, this sculpture features a young girl, relaxed and self-confident, balancing on one foot with her eyes closed. Debold said the sculpture is a visual metaphor of its title, in that maintaining a balance between health, family, work, and play is very important.

Pegasus IV: Liftoff

Created by sculptor Tom Gingras, this piece captures the moment of liftoff for the magical creature as one foot extends into the air while the other remains on the ground. In creating this sculpture, Gingras welded together bronze, copper, and steel to create this sculpture, which stands at more than 7 feet tall.

The Green Street Monster and the Monster’s Lair

Designed and painted by muralist Zahckry Israel, this dual mural pays tribute to local lore. A mural on one side of the underpass depicts “The Green Street Monster” while a mural on the other side features the monster’s lair.

Harmony in Color

Designed and painted by Jamie Robinson of Palette Mural Designs, this mural is a celebration of the arts in Longview. It features imagery to represent visual art, symphony, theatre, and the symphonic band.
